Table tennis is a fast moving offensive racket sport that is played with a light ball on the smallest game surface known. Tournaments feature singles, boubles and mixed doubles matches. Matches are played in 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5 21-point sets, and a lead of at least 2 points is needed to win a set.
Concentration, coordination, and rapidity are essential for this game. Players return the ball an average of 3 times before losing or winning a point. They must know how to direct play to place their best shots rapidly and keep opponents from using their best shots.
Table tennis became an Olympic sport in Seould in 1988.
